Investments start at $10,000 a year and may be paid in installments over the duration of the project. Our philanthropy team will work with you directly to develop a tailored gift agreement that meets your needs.

Contribute todayBenin: Preventing and Responding to GBV
In Benin, we are supporting the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs and local feminist organizations to address gender-based violence (GBV) and promote gender equality. With the ministry, we are contributing to a study that will document the impact of GBV in Benin and creating a digital library of key resources—including relevant policies, studies and reports, and strategy documents. We are supporting feminist organizations to form a network of national and local groups, to improve their organizational development and the impact of their activities, and to ensure the well-being of those doing community health and gender work. These investments in local organizations will enhance local capacity to expand women’s rights and protect women’s health.

Ethiopia: REACH
Ethiopia has one of the highest fertility rates in Sub-Saharan Africa, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) are a high priority for the people and the government of Ethiopia. EngenderHealth leads REACH, a multi-partner project designed to improve SRHR in the Oromia region, the largest region in Ethiopia. Through REACH, we improve women’s and young people’s knowledge of and access to SRHR services and address critical community needs for menstrual hygiene management (an often-overlooked component of SRHR and gender equality programs) and water, sanitation, and hygiene services. By working within the health system, communities, and schools, the project will increase use of key health services, enhance community support for services, and support women and young people in having more control and choice about their own health and wellness.

India: Transformational Change for Adolescent Health
Ensuring youth have the information and resources they need to make healthy decisions is critical to supporting their health and to providing a strong foundation for practicing healthy behaviors. India has the largest adolescent population in the world, and its government invests in youth through comprehensive adolescent health and school health and wellness programs. EngenderHealth is supporting these programs by strengthening training curricula and health education materials and engaging young people to be champions for their health. By collaborating with educators and healthcare providers and engaging youth in these activities, we will give young people in India tools to make healthy decisions and an increased ability to live the lives they want.

West Africa: Preventing and Responding to Gender-Based Violence
In 2021 we launched our Ensemble initiative in West Africa. Ensemble—which means “together” in French—recognizes that facilitating partnerships and supporting local action are key to preventing, responding to, and ultimately eliminating gender-based violence (GBV). Addressing and preventing GBV, and supporting survivors, are essential to improving the health of all people. Our holistic approach centers on working with communities to address harmful gender norms, including engaging men and boys to challenge negative notions of masculinity, promoting healthy relationships, and facilitating effective interpersonal communication and shared decision-making.
Ensemble brings together partners committed to addressing GBV so that we can learn from each other and increase our coordination to accelerate action in West Africa. This ambitious initiative was co-designed with a wide range of partners, including women- and survivor-led organizations that are working toward eliminating GBV.

Funded! Kenya & Nigeria: Expanding Access to Hormonal Contraception
The success of family planning programs hinges on people having a choice of contraceptive methods and trained healthcare providers ready and able to offer those methods. In separate but related projects, EngenderHealth is supporting the Ministries of Health of Kenya and Nigeria to fill gaps in clinical training and service delivery of the hormonal IUD. In Kenya, we are providing training to national- and county-level clinical trainers who will conduct workshops for 900 healthcare providers across 275 public health facilities. In Nigeria, we are training and supporting healthcare workers, including nurses and midwives, in Bauchi and Sokoto States to ensure that more than two million women have more options for contraception. In both countries, we work with government and local partners to support capacity strengthening of the public health system to ensure that women have more options of and access to high-quality contraception and to contraceptive choice.
