Youssef Tawfik to Join EngenderHealth as Senior Director, Clinical Family Planning & Reproductive Health

October 9, 2023 (WASHINGTON)—EngenderHealth is excited to announce that Youssef Tawfik has joined the organization’s executive team as the Senior Director, Clinical Family Planning and Reproductive Health. Youssef brings over 25 years of experience in family planning, sexual and reproductive health, and maternal, newborn, and child health programming.

As the Senior Director of Clinical Family Planning and Reproductive Health, Youssef Tawfik will lead the EngenderHeath family planning and reproductive health portfolio that spans multiple countries and covers contraception, comprehensive postabortion care, maternal health, cervical cancer, and fistula prevention and repair. He will provide technical expertise in developing technical approaches to increase access to high-quality family planning and reproductive health services for all people of reproductive age—including adolescents, young parents, and underserved or marginalized populations—and their implementation across project interventions in fragile settings. He will also lead the organization’s approach to clinical governance and quality assurance across the health systems in which EngenderHealth operates.

Prior to joining EngenderHealth, Youssef Tawfik, who holds a Master of Public Health from Harvard University, worked as a physician and has over 25 years of experience in scaling up and improving the quality of family planning and reproductive health programs, including postabortion care, prevention of fistula, HIV prevention and treatment, cervical cancer prevention and screening, and maternal, newborn, and child health programs in developing countries. He has led several health programs in both the US and internationally where he developed program strategies, work plans, monitoring and evaluation systems, and managed sub-contracts, as well as supervised and mentored technical and administrative staff. He has extensive experience in strengthening health systems, including governance, finance, drugs, logistics systems, human resources, health information systems, and quality improvement of health services. In previous roles, Youssef has implemented and evaluated health programs in several countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. He speaks French and his native language is Arabic

“I am excited to have Youssef join our team. The breadth and depth of his experience and technical capacity complement our strong global team that is already situated closer to the communities that we serve,” said Sekai Chikowero, vice president of programs at EngenderHealth. “He will support our partners and country teams in their efforts to strengthen health systems and deliver high-quality health services globally.”

Youssef joins EngenderHealth as we work to enhance service delivery, advocate for supportive enabling environments, work with local partners, and support policy change in our commitment to supporting individuals in making free, informed decisions about sexuality and childbearing so they can live the lives they want. His expertise and leadership will ensure that every client that accesses information or services through an EngenderHealth-supported intervention receives the highest quality of care and that all of our programs are delivered with technical distinction and with the potential of scale and sustainability.
